Three days in Bangkok with one river day and fewer cross-city rides
Choose an old-city anchor, use the correct boat service and give a second neighborhood its own time.

This plan separates the older temple-and-river setting, a neighborhood food day and a flexible museum or park day. It does not assume that a short map distance means a quick road journey.
Connect the actual airport to your chosen base
BKK is Suvarnabhumi Airport; Don Mueang, DMK, is a different airport with different onward arrangements. The BKK operator lists Airport Rail Link, taxis, buses and other transport options. Choose the complete route to the room rather than stopping the comparison at a city rail station.
Match the flight’s actual local arrival date to the first hotel night. Leave arrival evening for check-in, food and rest. If a late flight or a cross-time-zone journey changes the day, revise the plan before buying a timed visit or setting an airport pickup.
Choose the base that fits your days
The older river-and-temple area: Compare a base around the visits you want in the older city. Check its real transport links and the separate journey to other neighborhoods.
A base near a suitable rail connection: Useful to compare when rail is part of your plan. Confirm the exact station, line changes, street crossing and final walk with luggage.
A riverside accommodation: Choose it for the property and river setting after checking land and boat access. A riverside room does not establish an included boat service or direct airport transfer.
Day 1: One temple area and the river
Choose one main religious or historic visit in the older city and build nearby time around it. The Tourism Authority of Thailand identifies temples including Wat Pho and Wat Arun among Bangkok’s major sights, but they are separate visits with their own access, clothing and admission arrangements.
Check the venue’s current visitor instructions and leave time for the route between the temple and any river crossing. A riverboat trip is not automatically the transport or ticket for every temple. Keep an exposed walk flexible, take breaks, and replace an outing if the group needs a slower first full day.
Day 2: A neighborhood meal, with a manageable route
Choose a neighborhood food outing rather than trying to sample every market in one day. Yaowarat is one of the city areas highlighted by the tourism authority. Decide whether you want an independent meal, a guided food walk or a cultural visit, then check the actual meeting point and route for that choice.
For a food experience, communicate dietary needs directly to the provider and review what is included. Do not infer that every stall or tour can meet an allergy or access requirement. Leave space around the meal and the journey back, rather than treating eating as a short gap between several distant paid attractions.
Day 3: Choose a museum, a park or a deliberately slower day
Use the final full day for one museum or park that fits your interests, or return to an area you enjoyed. If a market is the priority, verify its actual operating day; the word weekend in an attraction name is a reason to check your calendar rather than assume it is available on every visit.
In rain, choose a confirmed indoor cultural stop and leave outdoor plans open. Avoid adding a distant excursion to prove the itinerary is full. Check checkout, luggage arrangements and the departure-airport route before the final evening, particularly if returning from an airport different from the one used on arrival.
Keep the return connected
Check whether the flight departs from BKK or DMK and rebuild the transfer if it differs from arrival. Record the real local departure date and time, and use current transport and airline instructions for the return allowance.
Ask the accommodation about luggage and checkout, then place bag collection and the airport journey together. Keep the final outing short enough that a changed road or rail journey can be handled without abandoning a paid reservation.
