Three days in London: one area at a time
Choose a useful rail base, give one museum a proper day and connect the Heathrow journey with the rest of the stay.

This first visit separates Westminster and the river, a museum-and-neighborhood day, and the eastern historic sights. Four nights leave an arrival evening and three full days. With less time, choose two of those days rather than compressing every attraction into the same walk.
Connect the actual airport to your chosen base
This plan uses Heathrow, LHR. Heathrow lists train, Tube, bus, coach and road options. Compare the entire route to the accommodation, including changes, the final walk with bags and the service available at your real arrival time. An express train to a central station is not a complete hotel transfer.
London flight results can use several airports. Read the actual code before reserving ground transport. Keep the arrival evening for check-in and a nearby meal; save the first timed attraction or show for a day when a delayed flight will not determine whether you can attend.
Choose the base that fits your days
Westminster or South Bank: Compare this area if the river and central landmarks lead your plan. Check the exact bridge or station crossing, bedroom location and late-arrival route.
Bloomsbury or Covent Garden: Useful to compare for museums, theaters and central walks. A theater-area address can be lively late; ask about the room rather than assuming quiet.
South Kensington: Consider a museum-focused base. The eastern historic sights become a separate journey, so compare that travel against the accommodation you prefer.
Day 1: Westminster and the South Bank, with one main visit
Begin around Westminster and choose whether the day needs an interior attraction or simply an outside look and a riverside walk. The river offers a clear organizing line, but a map full of nearby pins can still become a long day on your feet. Choose a sensible finishing point before starting.
If a paid attraction matters, use its exact entry time as the anchor and leave food and the next walk flexible. A sightseeing boat, London Eye ticket and walking tour are separate products. Check the boarding point, inclusions and weather terms instead of treating them as one package.
Day 2: A museum and a neighborhood you can enjoy slowly
Choose one museum that fits your interests, then spend the rest of the day nearby. Bloomsbury and Covent Garden offer a different kind of visit from the riverfront. If you prefer South Kensington’s museums, replace the museum-and-neighborhood pairing instead of adding another cross-city commitment.
Check the museum’s current booking arrangements, any exhibition supplement and the access route you need. For an evening show, confirm the actual theater and performance time, then place a meal nearby. Leave enough of the afternoon open that the show does not turn the museum into a race.
Day 3: The Tower area, then an unreserved finish
Give the Tower of London area its own outing. An outside view, Tower Bridge visit and Tower of London admission are different decisions with different entrances and durations. Choose the experience you want before purchasing a broad attraction pass or another timed ticket.
Use the remainder of the day for an eastern riverside walk or return to a favorite neighborhood. In rain, replace the exposed walk with a museum or gallery after checking its opening and entry arrangements. Keep the final evening close enough to your base to prepare the journey home calmly.
Keep the return connected
Check the departure airport again. A return from Gatwick or another airport after arriving at Heathrow changes the ground journey; do not reuse the arrival route automatically. Place checkout, bag collection and the airport trip together in My Trip.
Use the airline’s current airport-arrival instructions and check transport notices for that date. If your flight is late, confirm bag storage and a realistic collection deadline before adding a final outing.
