Get to the door, not just to the district
Metro access and a riverside address are different benefits. Check the route from the useful station to the property, including slopes, steps and the final vehicle drop-off if you use a transfer. Ask how late arrival works when the property is not continuously staffed.
Andante tickets need the current validation steps followed when starting and changing a journey. Confirm the product and zones for the actual route. A familiar-looking transport card from another city does not establish how this one works.
Choose between a city boat trip and a valley day
A short cruise around the city and a Douro Valley excursion use very different amounts of the stay. Check departure point, transport, time at stops and the return before comparing the apparent number of inclusions.
For a cellar or guided experience, ask about language, group size, the exact tasting or visit and mobility needs. Buy the explanation or access you want. There is no need to choose a larger package simply because it names more places.
Keep at least one evening local
Choose a base where you will enjoy an ordinary evening after an outing. That might be river time, a local meal or an easier walk back from transport. A room’s best feature should fit more than a single photograph.
For a short stay, avoid changing accommodation unless the second base clearly improves a different part of the trip. Moving bags and waiting for check-in can use the time that a small city break has least of.
